Oddly enough, the centennial trip for me is symbolized by a bright orange lei. Everyone in our tour group was given one of these yarn leis to wear. While it made our group very conspicuous as foreigners, it was our passport to incredible experiences. The leis shouted out that we were from Hawaii and made us extremely approachable. Many strangers walked up to talk story or issue invitations to join them.
